About Us
Our experienced team of board-certified ophthalmologists and optometrists offer comprehensive eye exams and a wide range of treatments for your eye care needs.
Our History
California Eye Clinic was established in 1979 by Dr. James “Bud” Tysinger. He was later joined by Dr. Robert “Bob” Grosserode. Together they served a growing need for the community and have been the cornerstone of eye care excellence in the Tri-Valley area. Deeply ingrained in their mission has been “the patient comes first,” irrespective of who that patient is, or where they come from. This central ethos has been a motivating guide to providing access to care globally.
International Vision Volunteers (IVV)
In 1994, Dr. Tysinger and Dr. Grosserode founded the charitable organization International Vision Volunteers (IVV). In 1995, they built both a freestanding eye clinic and an operating room in Zimba, Zambia. For over 25 years, this facility has been serving not only the local community, but also the neighboring countries. Many patients travel hundreds of miles from Botswana and Zimbabwe to receive care. The organization has since trained an ophthalmologist, Dr. Brighton, to perform state of the art eye surgeries for the community. IVV has sponsored a local student to go to optometry school and he has since returned to work at IVV. The clinic continues to train ophthalmology residents, clinical officers, and nurses in eye care. Each year, hundreds of surgeries and thousands of patients are served, extending the conviction that everyone deserves care.
